As the field of behavior analysis continues to evolve, one of the most meaningful shifts we have made as BCBAs and RBAs is moving beyond a compliance focused model. Modern ABA is about collaboration, compassion, and connection. It recognizes that every individual has the right to make choices, express preferences, and participate in decisions that affect them. Our role as clinicians is not to control behavior but to understand its function and support meaningful alternatives. At Exploring Minds, we prioritize assent based practice, ensuring that therapy respects each child’s comfort, readiness, and autonomy. We use play, natural teaching opportunities, and individualized reinforcement to encourage engagement and reduce frustration. This approach helps children build confidence and trust, leading to genuine, self motivated learning.
